Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Week
Nursery
July 2022
In the last week of term we learnt about keeping healthy. After learning about eating healthily the children asked to make homemade pizzas and tuna wraps, we added salad and vegetables to our recipe as they are full of vitamins. The children liked the warm tomatoes on the pizzas and loved the sweetcorn in the tuna wraps.
We also learnt how important it is to be active, the children went on a bike ride in the school grounds and joined in sports day activities with Reception. They observed and talked about how our bodies feel when we exercise. We also learnt about the importance of a good night's sleep and about keeping clean, including cleaning our teeth twice a day.

In our last week of the year, we took part in our annual Sports Day event. The children completed the egg and spoon race, javelin throwing, running and hurdles.
They had lots of fun and when the points were calculated we found out our winners.

Nursery's Visit to Planet Play
July 2022
Nursery also visited Planet Planet soft play centre this week. The children had lots of fun exploring the play equipment climbing, balancing and sliding.
Reception's Visit to Planet Play

The children in Reception enjoyed a visit to a play center called Planet Play, we had so much fun playing on the equipment and zooming down the slide.

Watching our class caterpillars change and grow into butterflies!
The children were very excited at the arrival of the caterpillars and enjoyed observing the changes as they grew bigger. The caterpillars made their cocoons.
and after almost 2 weeks the caterpillars emerged from their cocoons as beautiful butterflies. We released the butterflies in the garden to enjoy all the flowers.

In Foundation Stage, we received a package with our very own Caterpillars inside. It was very exciting and we wanted to learn more about them. We looked at books such as 'Christopher's Caterpillars' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'
We watched them get bigger and bigger and then finally form their own cocoons. We waited very patiently for 2 weeks until they emerged as beautiful butterflies.
When they were strong enough, we released them and set them free!

Reception's Craft Club

In Reception, we have had our own craft club. We have made many things including butterflies. We had butterflies in our classroom and we enjoyed making some out of salt dough.
We formed them and when they were dry and hard enough, we painted them very carefully.

Jubilee Picnic

The Nursery children enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and they all looked very smart in their party clothes. They helped to make sandwiches and joined in the whole school picnic.
Share a story month in Nursery!

This month staff from around our school have been visiting Nursery at story time to read their favourite books. The children have loved having surprise visitors and it has made story times extra special.
On 13th May we also took part in the BookTrust's Pyjamarama Day. The children wore pyjamas for the day and had lots of fun making their own Bumblebear honey biscuits and joining in activities based on the story of ‘The Bumblebear’.
Celebrating Eid in Nursery!

The children learnt about how some families celebrate Eid. The children made crescent moons to decorate the classroom for our Eid Party. The children carefully cut a crescent shape before using metallic paint, sequins and glitter to decorate. On Party day children were very excited and looked amazing in their party clothes. The children had a lovely time sharing party food with their friends before joining in and learning some new dance moves.

Eid In Reception
May 2022
This week we have been celebrating Eid in Reception, we have been learning about how people celebrate around the world.
We made our own crescent moons using white crayons and water colours. As a class we also created our own 'Eid Mubarak' banner to decorate our classroom.
The children came into school in their party clothes, we also ate some yummy food. We tried curry, samosas and yummy sweet treats.
We danced and played many games including pass the parcel, musical bumps, statues and chairs.
We had a brilliant day!

Balance bikes
April 2022
Nursery have enjoyed learning skills on their balance bikes. They have been focusing on using their brakes to stop and steering around obstacles.

Tadpoles
April 2022
The Nursery children went to the school pond to look for some tadpoles. We put the tadpoles in a tank in the classroom. We will look after the tadpoles and observe them as they grow and change into froglets.
Out and About Spring 2022 This term our theme is ‘Out and About!’ The theme will give the children lots of opportunities to explore the outdoors and investigate the natural environment.
We will use a range of non-fiction books and children’s websites to learn more about the world around us. We will learn about the plants and creatures living in our Foundation Stage garden and the wider school grounds. We will visit our school pond to collect tadpoles, caring for them in class before returning them to the pond. Later in the term, we will be looking after caterpillars, observing them as they grow, change and eventually turn into butterflies. |

Shape Hunt
April 2022
Some of the Reception went on a 'shape hunt' around our outdoor area with Miss Mansbridge.
We found shapes in objects that we play with everyday, we saw some interesting triangles, circles, squares and rectangles.

In Nursery we learnt about Easter and how it is a special time for Christians. We found out how some families celebrate Easter at home and at church. The children then enjoyed taking part in some Easter activities with their friends.

Comic Relief
March 2022
On Comic Relief Day the children wore something red to school and took part in relay races. The children were put into teams and then they took turns to race. The children had to run to their hoop, do 5 jumps then run as fast as they can back to their team.
Healthy Teeth and Gums

EYFS had a visit from the oral health team who reminded us how we can keep our teeth and gums healthy.

Early Years Story Hunt

Nursery took part in a Fairy Tale Story Hunt, they met an explorer and her special bird. They collected clues from their favourite stories. At the end of their adventure, they used the clues they had found to help tell a new story.
Growing Beanstalks In Reception
March 2022
In Reception, we have been looking at the story of 'Jack and the beanstalk'
The children enjoyed learning about how the beanstalk grows from the tiny bean.
We then began to read about how to grow plants and what we need to do to help a seed/bean grow.
The children learnt about the need for sunlight and water, they then understood the steps we would need to take when planting our beans.
We added some soil and then our beans, we then added more to fill our pots to the top.
The children enjoyed watching their beans grow and get taller and taller.
When they were ready, the children took their plants home.
The Gingerbread Man
March 2022
In Nursery we really enjoyed the story 'The Gingerbread Man'. We made our own yummy gingerbread people and when they cooled we ate them as a special treat.
Growing Beans
March 2022
In Nursery we shared the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk'. Jasper found a bean and planted it in his garden. The children planted their own bean in a pot. The children cared for their beans by watering them and making sure they had enough sunlight to help them grow into a bean plant.
After two weeks the beans had started to grow and we saw small shoots. As the beans grew taller the children re-potted the plants into bigger pots and were able to see the roots in the soil. The children have now taken their bean plants home to continue to care for them until they have some beans.
World Book Day
March 2022
On World Book Day we came to school in our pyjamas or dressed as a favourite book character. We brought some of our favourite story books to school to share with our teachers and friends. We celebrated bedtime reading!
Staying Safe Week In Reception
February 2022
For ‘Staying Safe Week’ in reception we looked at a range of ways we can stay safe.
For ‘Safer Internet Day’ we looked at how we can be safe online.
We looked at ‘Digiduck’ and how he askes his adult for help when strange messages pop up on his game, we talked about in app purchases how it costs real money.
Digiduck explores passwords, the characters guessed their adult’s password in the story. We discussed as a group how unsafe this was and that we should never do it.
We looked at how we can be safe around our house and objects that are not safe for us to touch.
We looked at laundry tablets and asked the children if they knew what they were.
We asked one very sensible child to come and attempt to open the box, we found out it had a child lock on it.
We read a story about Sam the lion and how he can stay safe around everyday items that can be harmful.
As a class we discussed what a stranger was and looked at who could be a safe stranger if you needed help.
We discussed uniforms and how they were a good clue as to who was a safe stranger.
We learnt that some strangers can be very nice and others aren’t.
We talked about your body and what is in your underpants or knickers being private.
What should you say if someone asked to see what’s in your underpants or knickers? “NO!”
Learning about the Arctic In Reception

In Reception, we have been looking at the Arctic.
We have looked at what the weather is like and what kind of animals live there. As a class, we learnt about deer, whales, polar bears, penguins and Arctic foxes.
We also looked at Inuit people, they live in the Arctic. We looked at the houses they live in and how they survive in such cold weather.
Cinderella
January 2022
After sharing the story 'Cinderella' the Nursery children had a Cinderella Party. The children decorated crowns their own crowns and they wore party clothes. After watching Cinderella dancing 'The Waltz' with the prince the children also danced 'The Waltz' with a partner. In preparation for the ball they children had made a list of the food they would like to eat at the ball. They asked for yogurt, fruit and pop corn.
Once Upon a Time
Spring 2022
This term our theme is ‘Once Upon a Time’. This theme will give the children lots of opportunities to listen to, join in with and retell some well-known traditional tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella. The children will learn about the characters and events in the stories we read.

We will also encourage children to develop their story telling skills by creating lots of opportunities for them to build stories around toys and engage in imaginative play with their friends.

Hot Chocolate With Ms Shah
January 2022
This week, as a special treat Ms Shah invited Aula to join her for hot chocolate. This was due to Aula's amazing attitude and generally being a lovely member of our school. Well done Aula!
Christmas In Reception
December 2021
Over the Christmas period the children have had a fantastic time.
Each child in school placed a bauble on the school Christmas tree.
We also looked at the nativity story and how Jesus was born, we made our own Christmas tree, cards and stockings.
The children came into school in their party clothes and we had a Christmas party. We played games and ate yummy party food. We danced and also has a very special visit from Father Christmas.
Celebrating Christmas
December 2021
On party day, the children wore their party clothes and enjoyed a Christmas feast with their friends. They were very excited when Santa arrived and they were very happy to receive a special gift.
The children showed their fantastic dance moves as they enjoyed the music and disco lights. They enjoyed our party games and were all very good at taking turns as they played Pass the Parcel.
Preparing for Christmas

Every child in our school helped to decorate the Christmas tree in the hall. We also learnt about the very first Christmas and sang Christmas songs together.
Snow Day
November 2021
The Children in Reception enjoyed a snow day this week. We put on our puddle suits and ventured out into the snow. We had lots fun touching the cold snow and talking about how it felt.
We looked at our footprints and and made some snowballs. We had lots of fun!!
Odd Socks Day
November 2021
We celebrated Odd Socks Day as part of our Friendship Week. Children and staff wore
‘odd socks’ to school, to celebrate that we are all different and we are all equal. We learnt what it means to be a good friend and we celebrated friendship with a special friendship pass the parcel game and a friendship feast.
Bonfire Night and Keeping Safe
November 2021
In Nursery the children watched a DVD about a family celebrating and keeping safe on Bonfire Night. We learnt how to keep ourselves and our pets safe. We also explored the sounds, shapes and colours of fireworks through dance and artwork. We used oil pastels, Brusho and glitter to create our own firework pictures. We enjoyed our Bonfire feast of baked beans, potato wedges and popcorn.
Diwali
November 2021
In Nursery we learnt about Diwali, a festival of light. The children enjoyed the story of Rama and Sita. They had a go at Indian stick dancing, using sticks to perform different actions, tapping the beat as they danced.
Autumn Walk
November 2021
The Nursery children went on an Autumn walk in the school grounds. We went to the orchard and collected apples and pears. We collected lots of colourful leaves to make our Autumn collages.
Let's celebrate carnival!
October 2021
In Nursery we read the story 'Nini at Carnival'. We had our own carnival parade, just like the one in the story. We made carnival hats, wore costumes, played percussion instruments and danced to the music. We also chose delicious treats to enjoy with our friends after the dancing.
What are our bodies made up of?

In literacy this week, we had been reading about our bodies and what they are made up of.
We have learnt about our bones and muscles and what we can do to keep strong and healthy.
Mr Warran and his helper Jordan came into class to answer some of the questions we had come up with.
Some of the questions we asked were, what do our lungs do? How do we keep our bodies healthy? Why is milk good for us? Why do we have muscles in our hands? What does your heart do?
Making Bread In Reception

In Reception, we have been looking at the story of the 'Little Red Hen'
We decided to make our very own bread, just like the Little Red Hen.
We mixed all of the ingredients together and kneaded the dough. We moulded the dough into balls and baked it in the oven. We enjoyed eating the bread we made, it was delicious.

Our Nursery class are settling in well. They have been enjoying making new friends and playing and exploring in our garden.
Let’s Celebrate!
This term our theme is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. This theme will give the children lots of opportunities to learn about themselves, their friends and their teachers. We’ll celebrate one another’s achievements and the qualities which make us each unique and special. The children will also learn about and celebrate a selection of Autumn festivals including Harvest, Diwali and Christmas. Below is an overview for our intended learning.
